Lock all your doors and windows
It is a very simple but often overlooked measure. It is a good idea to keep doors and windows secured even if you are home.
Move your valuables away from doors and windows
Don’t leave your car keys on a hook by the door or your handbag on the hall stand (we know we all do it!) Find another spot in the house that is less visible and more secure to store your valuable and get into the habit of using it.
Be careful not to signal that you are out
Don’t leave a note for the delivery driver on the front door and consider turning down the ring on your landline (if you still have one) so that it is less obvious if it rings and no one answers it.
Make sure your alarm system is in good working order
If you have an alarm system – turn it on! If it is not working properly or faulty then get it repaired so your neighbours don’t learn to ignore it.
